How Floppy Disk Drives Work
A floppy disk drive operates by reading and writing data onto a thin, circular magnetic disk encased in a protective plastic shell. The disk spins inside the drive while a read/write head accesses specific tracks and sectors to store or retrieve data. The standard sizes included 8-inch, 5.25-inch, and the more familiar 3.5-inch disks, with storage capacities ranging from a few hundred kilobytes to 1.44 megabytes.
